Obituaries » Alvin Stokes

Alvin Stokes, 69, of Forts Lake, MS, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 12, 2017 in Pascagoula, MS. Alvin was born on July 4, 1947 in Jackson County, MS to the late Murray and Loistine Stokes. He will be remembered for being a hard worker, strong and rough, but also as a teddy bear, that loved being around people, especially his family. Alvin loved Southern Gospel music and good country cooking, especially by all his sisters. He was very competitive regardless of what the challenge might have involved. Alvin loved his daughter Alyson more than life itself, and he was ready to be with his Master and Lord.

In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his siblings, James Aubrey Stokes, Ronald Stokes, Gloria Jean Mahathy, Arlene Oliver, and Lloyd Murray Stokes.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Alyson Stokes; siblings, Donald Ray (Faye) Stokes, Sandra (Leroy) Mahathy, Rev. Alton (Fareta) Stokes, Glenda (Colen) Brown, Glen (Dianne) Stokes, Linda Gail (Glynn) Walters, Ruth (Rev. Tim) Cauley, Raymond Stokes, Ernestine Walters, Geraldine (Darrell) Passman, Darlene (Mike) Walters, Rodney (Lisa) Stokes, and Ronald Wayne Stokes; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Grand Bay Church of God in Grand Bay, AL. The funeral service will follow at the church beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Alton Stokes and Bro. Tony Mahathy officiating. Interment will be held at W.R. Clark Cemetery in Franklin Creek, MS with Scotty Stokes, Stacey Stokes, Chad Walters, Rusty Oliver, Brett Walters, and Shane Walters serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Rod Stokes and B.J. Walters.

Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, in Escatawpa/Moss Point, MS is in charge of arrangements. You may view and sign the online register book for Alvin Stokes at
