David Elias Kihyet, Sr., 68, passed away on September 22, 2016, after a brave battle against cancer.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton Elias Kihyet and Louise White Kihyet, and by his sister, Gay Louise Kihyet Denmark.

David is survived by his children: Kathryn Louise Kihyet, Lauren Kihyet Ruckdeschel (David), and David Elias Kihyet, Jr.; step-daughter: Amy Cox Hodges (Gray); 7 grandchildren:  Graydon Gautier Hodges, Hunter Rae Hodges, Hanson Turner Hodges, Isabel Celeste Kihyet O’Brien, Tristan Vaughan Jones, Logan Paul Ruckdeschel, and Hennessy Little; 1 great-grandchild: Charleigh Rae Kerner; brother-in-law Dennis Denmark (Gay); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born on September 18, 1948 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, David was a lifelong resident of Jackson County.  He graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1966, then went on to complete his undergraduate degree at the University of Southern Mississippi. It was here that he joined the Kappa Alpha Fraternity.  Upon graduation, David attended the University of Mississippi Law School, and received his Juris Doctorate in May of 1973.

David practiced law and was a member of the Jackson County Bar Association for over forty years. During the year of 1985-1986, David served as President of the Bar.  Active within the community, David was also a member of the Southern Trial Lawyers Association and the Gautier Rotary Club.

The family will receive friends at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula, Mississippi on Friday, September 30, 2016, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., followed by a mass-memorial at 3:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, in Escatawpa/Moss Point, MS is in charge of arrangements.
