Obituaries » James Flynt

James “Jim” Aurelius Flynt, Sr, 76, of Gautier passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2016, in the presence of children, grandchildren, along with his best friend, the mother of his children, Jeannie Stork.

Jim was born to Irma Fay Lott and Samuel Aurelius Flynt on February 11, 1940, in Moss Point, MS.  He grew up in Moss Point and joined the Army of the United States, where he bravely served our great country in the Vietnam War with the 7th Calvary, fighting in the infamous battle of the Ia Drang Valley where he was wounded and received a purple heart.  He received an Honorable Discharge on March 25, 1966.   Thereafter, he was a design engineer, contractor, and entrepreneur.

Jim was always plotting his next “get rich quick” scheme to “set his kids up for life”.  He was always involved in a business plan or invention, even while bravely fighting his battle with cancer.  He was “Paw Paw” to thirteen grandchildren, to each of whom he bounced on his knee and sang “Going Down to Strawberry Town”. He loved playing golf and fishing.  He was a member of the VFW of Gautier and Knights of Columbus.  He recently told a long time friend that he “lived a good long life and had a lot of beautiful grandkids”.  We will think of him anytime we hear Merle Haggard, George Jones, Conway Twitty, or Waylon Jennings.

He is survived by his sons, Dewayne Dean (Holly) of Vancleave, Bradley S. Flynt (Christina) of Vancleave, V. Kyle Flynt  (Charlotte) of Ocean Springs, and daughter, Kala Norton (Brian) of Vancleave; thirteen grandchildren; siblings Gerald Flynt (Pat) of Lucedale and John Houston (Billie) of High Point, NC; sisters Lynda Flynt Martin of Gautier and Debra Flynt -Garrett of Sarasota, FL; numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irma Flynt Anders and Samuel A. Flynt, and son, James “Jimbo” Flynt .

We take peace in knowing that he surrendered his life to our Lord and is now in His presence.  We will celebrate his life on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Heritage Funeral Home in Moss Point.  Visitation will be at 10:30 am with funeral services at 12:00 followed by internment at a family cemetery in Benndale.

Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, in Escatawpa/Moss Point, MS is in charge of arrangements. You may view and sign the online register book for James Flynt at www.heritagefuneralhome.us
