Obituaries » James Lee (Jim) Belcher

James Lee (Jim) Belcher, 78, of Hurley, MS went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.  Jim was born on December 30, 1938 in Clarke County, MS to the late Moody and Cora Belcher.  He was an active member of Escatawpa Baptist Church before “moving north” to Hurley in 2004, and was most recently a member of Hurley Baptist Church where he loved participating in his Sunday School Class.  Jim was a master welder and retired from Ingalls after 35 years of service to the shipyard and our country as a ship builder.  After retirement (and Hurricane Katrina), he was very active in the rebuilding and relief efforts in Jackson County through the Community of Hope based out of Caswell Springs United Methodist Church.  Jim was totally dedicated to his two granddaughters, Jaelyn and Ella Golson, and was an avid supporter of their volleyball and soccer activities.  There has never been a more dedicated fan and proud Papaw!  In addition to his mother and father, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Annelle Overby and Dean Hegwood, and his brother, Bivin Belcher.  He is survived by his sister, Faye McCarra of Quitman, MS, his son, James Gregory Belcher, his daughter, Donna (T.J.) Golson, his granddaughters, Jaelyn and Ella Golson, and numerous nieces and nephews.  The visitation will be held on Friday, February 10th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with funeral services at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home in Moss Point.  Reverand Jim Fisher will be officiating Jim’s homecoming service.
