Jesse Brewer (J. B.) Hammond, Jr.entered into his eternal rest on February 28, 2017 at Bay Minnette, Alabama. Mr. Hammond was born on July 3, 1926, in Mobile, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Juanita Golmon Hammond, and his daughter, Marsha Gaye Hammond.

He is survived by daughters, Pamela Simpson Beasley (Don) of Powder Springs, Georgia and Donna Hammond Day (Harry) of Mobile, Alabama; grandchildren, Jason Day (Tracy) of Mobile, Alabama, Matthew Day (Amy) of Nokomis, Florida, Beth Quave (Jason) of Mobile, Alabama, and Trisha Prewitt (Stephen) of Lake Charles, Louisiana; his great grandchildren Mary Katelyn Day, Bradley Day, Aidan Quave, Sydney Day, Laurel Quave, Holden Day, Evan Prewitt, Caroline Day, Samuel Prewitt, Matthew Prewitt, and Eli Day. J.B. was in World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy and in the Korean War, where he served in the U. S. Air Force. He was a graduate of Ole Miss, and earned a B. A. in Accounting. He worked in Cost Accounting at International Paper Company, Moss Point, MS from 1953 until his retirement in 1999. Mr, Hammond was a member of Kreole Avenue Baptist Church for 62 years where he sang in the choir and served as a trustee. J. B. loved old cars and he was an avid runner. He completed many 5K and 10k runs, including 14 consecutive Azalea Trail Races. He also completed two full marathons. Dad, we are surely going to miss you. You were a special, one-of-a-kind man, and a great storyteller.

Visitation will be Friday 10:00AM-12:00PM at Heritage Funeral Home, with services beginning at 12:00PM. The Rev. Matthew Day and The Rev. Don Womble will officiate. Interment will be in Orange Grove.

Heritage Funeral Home, Moss Point, MS is in charge of the arrangements.
