Joyce Nelson Gautier Richards departed this life for life eternal on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. She was a longstanding, devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Pascagoula, and especially enjoyed the Senior Citizen Class of Bob Lynn.

Mrs. Richards was born on June 28, 1929, in Moss Point, MS to the late Ruby Fails and William Horace Nelson, Jr. She attended Lindenwood College in Missouri and graduated from University of MS with a B.S. degree in Economics. Joyce was beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a loving friend to many. She served as President of the Pascagoula Civic Guild, as well as President of the Pascagoula-Moss Point Junior Auxiliary. She belonged to Magnolia Garden Guild for many years and was an avid Bridge player and member of the “Thursday Bridge Club”. She was a member of Tri Delta Sorority at Ole Miss. Joyce was a talented craft person and made many beautiful quilts and needlepoint pieces. Before Katrina, she restored and refinished almost all of the furniture in her home. Joyce was beautiful and stylish, and a gracious and friendly hostess and always a true Southern lady.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, M. M. “Mac” Gautier, in 1990. With Mac, she lived overseas and travelled all over the world, visiting 24 countries. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Horace Hosea Nelson; son-in-law, Lyle Peterzell; and nephew, Thomas Reagan Nelson.

She is survived by her loving husband, M. R. “Montie” Richards; two devoted daughters, Renee Gautier Hague (Doug) and Lanier Gautier Peterzell; 3 beloved grandchildren, Joseph Andrew Rosenweig (Zarouhie Abdalian), Laura Herron (Dr. Brooks), and Nelson Hague (Pame Cevallos); sisters, Mrs. Jackie Nelson of Daphne, AL, and Mrs. Carol Mize of Washington, D. C.
