William Hermes Hamilton, 90, of Fort Walton Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Fort Walton Beach. Hermes was born on May 25, 1926 in Hurley, MS to the late Gavin M. and Jewel L. Hamilton. Hermes was a Moss Point High School graduate, class of 1944. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Navy, and served his country during World War II. He completed numerous missions and sailed countless miles aboard the USS LST-970, which earned one Battle Star for service during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he attended Perkinston Junior College and the University of Mississippi before obtaining his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. Hermes worked for many years as Personnel Management for the Civil Service before his retirement.  He was also a member of Fort Walton Beach United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Hermes was preceded in death by his siblings, Frank Hamilton, Vera King, Willa Dean Roberts, and Teressa Ardoin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Helen Sue Hamilton; children, Brian William (Echo Louise) Hamilton, Barry Stephen (Teri) Hamilton, and Lori Diane Lawrence; grandchildren, Kobie William Hamilton, Kolten Wallace Hamilton, Ross W. (Brianne) Leblanc Jr.,  Scarlet R. Leblanc, and James Gregory Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Alyss Marie Williams, Joe Wesley Williams, Malcolm Eugene Williams, Charlotte Ryann Leblanc, and Penelope Blake Leblanc; siblings, John Hamilton, Oraine (Joe) Ardoin, and Nellie Schatz; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Hurley United Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. David Henderson officiating. Interment will follow at the Hamilton Family Cemetery in Hurley with Craig Roberts, Kobie Hamilton, Kolten Hamilton, Blair Hamilton, Derek Hamilton, and Robin Morrison serving as pallbearers.
